"We are Here to Stay: Welcome to the Queerdom" is an installation work featuring interactive performance.  Channeling childhood curiosity, imaginative play, and reclamation of oppressive histories, the queerdom is a place where oddity rules and our collective sense of security is cradled in an iridescent warmth. Individual identities are both uniquely represented and infinitely interconnected.

The artist begins with a basic textile set, while dressed in a rainbow tablecloth disguised as a ball gown and a paper crown. The starting set shows evidence of destruction and apocalyptic pain, but glittering, queer strength has risen from the wreckage. Together with the audience— and materials ranging from tulle to neon paint to repurposed building materials— the queerdom grows into an ecosystem of magic and joy where our imagined future of safety and togetherness becomes a reality.

In May of 2023, The Queerdom took over Bloom Local’s gallery space in the Old School Commons in Northampton, MA. The exhibition included an interactive performance. Attendees were invited to add their own “Sacred Proclamations of the Queerdom” to the gallery wall, express themselves with clothes and jewelry from a nostalgic dress-up trunk, and play with Barbies, pink dump trucks, and colorful beads. The audiences’ presence left in the space became part of the collective footprint of the installation and experience.
